Bad-nit-nin anyone?

New favorite family pastime- badminton or bad-nit-nin as Caleb calls it.  The boys are very serious about the game.  Jack dives for almost every hit, we play until it gets dark, sometimes even under the lights.  Weston usually sits in his walker and watches, then eventually Matt or I have to play while holding him.  I've gotten rather good at it. Tonight we lost one of our birdies in the big tree in our back yard and always we have to pause the game to get a birdie off the roof.  Good times...

Outside my Window... Foggy and cool

I am thinking...I love Jesus, he is the Way the Truth and the Life

From the learning rooms... The Very Hungry Caterpillar day for Caleb. We are reading the book, practicing counting and maybe some flash cards.   Jack is learning about  Native Americans in history and magnetism in science.   

I am thankful for...my kids and husband, they're the best, they make me happy.

From the kitchen...I have no idea yet.

Around the house...Jack and Caleb are watching The Magic School Bus, Weston is taking his morning nap.

One of my favorite things...Westons feet, I love the way he rubs them together and the way he crosses them and how they are a little chubby.  I want to bite them all the time!

random happenings

Jack lost his soccer game yesterday 7-5.  It was sad.  Not really as much for the kids probably as for the adults though.  I forget how competitive I get.  I have to really try not to get upset and yell things and not go unto the field and just go score a goal myself.  I could beat those little kids! How ridiculous am I? 

In other news, Caleb stuck a tiny little playmobil pirate treasure coin up his nose this week. Fortunately I was able to get it out with my tweezers.  Last weekend he also "liberated" a toy cell phone from WalMart.  Now he knows that you have to pay for things but he simply said that he wanted it and knew I wouldn't buy it for him.  My first thought was that I should make him take it back in himself and say he was sorry.  But Caleb has such a tender heart, that by the time we had discussed why we don't steal things he was crying and saying sorry to me.   We took it back and the lady behind the counter said that when she was little she stole something and her mom made her take it back and apologize.   I told her that I had thought about doing that too but changed my mind and she just shook her head at me.  I was so glad that I chose mercy for Caleb. I know his heart and I know he was sorry and I would bet that he won't do it again.  But for that lady who said she would never forget that event in her life, who thought I should do the same to my child, I felt sorry  for her.  She wasn't shown mercy.  It made me so thankful for Jesus who's mercies are new every morning for me (thanks Becky!).  Even if I've blown it a hundred times, all I have to say is that I'm sorry and I'm forgiven, restored to my relationship with Christ. Not that I don't have to ask others for forgiveness when I hurt someone but you get my point?

The week in review

After many months of Caleb arguing with me about taking his nap and insisting that he wasn't tired, I told him that when he turned 4  I wouldn't make him take any more.  So almost every day around 4pm this week we have found him sleeping somewhere, mostly on the couch but the other day we found him on the floor in his room.
This picture was from an early morning photo op with the boys and Matt.  They get up early with Matt and entertain him while I sleep for a bit.
Jack had his first game this week! His team -the Thunder Bolts- won, 8 to 3. Every quarter everyone switches positions.  Here is Jack when it was his turn to be goalie.

And week number 1 of school is complete! It was a fun, busy week.  Only 31 more weeks to go. We've been starting off every day with devotions and prayer together then we split up.  Jack goes and does his busy work and Caleb and I spend an hour together reading and doing worksheets and such.  Caleb is really enjoying it.  He can't wait till devotions are over to tell Jack to go in the other room so we can be alone.  Of course he doesn't want to leave Jack and I alone.  On Wednesday I had him go in his room for a bit so Jack and I could work on some things so he stormed down the hall and slammed the door.   For about the first 1/2 hour Caleb talked to me from behind his closed door.  At one point he told me he was going to become the incredible hulk and punch the door down.  Other than that it went well.  Jack has a lot more work to do this year but I think it will be a good challenge for him, he can definitely handle it. 

Caleb turns 4!

The spider cake:  it was decided at the last minute that he wanted a spider cake.  It was a toss up between that and a volcano cake or incredible hulk cake (and numerous others).
Matt got him this rubber band shooter....um maybe not the best idea.  But Caleb loves it. Now I just have to constantly watch for rubber bands flying by my head.  Jack was the first to incur an injury, a nice big welt by his eye.

We took Caleb to the Santa Barbara zoo on Sunday to celebrate his birthday. .  You can kind of see the alligator or crocodile, (I cant remember which it was) in the background.  His favorite animals were the lions and the gorillas.  He really loves animals and insects right now.  We got him a bug vacuum and he is in heaven sucking up all kinds of bugs and bringing them inside for me to see. 
Here's Caleb in his soccer shirt, shorts and cleats, kicking his new soccer ball that he got for his birthday.   He's so sweet.  He was really excited about his birthday this year.  He kept asking during the day if he was 4 now and decided that he was the same age as Jack.
